My husband works in regional South Australia at times. When he is away he always sends me photos of the beautiful places he visits. It makes me feel like I am there too. This painting is inspired by a photo he sent me of Kingston, a small coastal town in south east South Australia.

I have family that live in Washington and when I have visited them they have always taken me on these amazing hikes. I wanted to do a piece that captured this beautiful part of the world.

This was a whole new subject for me as I have never painted a desert scene before. It was great to try a new challenge.

40.6cm x 50.8cm
This summer one of my favourite activities was to visit @atlenswoodpickyourown to pick apples at dusk. This painting was inspired by warm nights and delicious apples.

40.6cm x 50.8cm
Continuing my goal to paint things I have never painted before, I have painted these snow capped mountains and a frozen lake. This scene was inspired by Finland and Canada combined.

20.5cm x 20.5cm
Lately I have been working on different night scenes to practise different techniques. In this one I really wanted to focus on the lightning and the reflections across the sea. This piece feels like waiting and watching a storm to come in from the shore.

22.9cm x 30.5cm
When I lived in Queensland one of my favourite weekend activities was to get lost in the rainforests on the Gold or Sunshine Coasts. This beautiful spot is on the Gold Coast and if you go make sure you go to the Natural Bridge too.

22.9cm x 30.5cm
Those that know me well know that I am a massive Lord of the Rings fan. So when I went to New Zealand of course I went to the Hobbiton Movie Set. It felt those though I had stepped into my favourite movie. It ended perfectly with a drink at the Green Dragon where I took the photo that inspired this painting. Sitting in the beer garden looking out to Bag End and the other hobbit holes was the best way to end the day.

22.9cm x 30.5cm
Continuing on my journey to paint night scenes, I have painted Karka Picnic Area at Belair National Park at night. This area is stunning during the day so I added whimsical elements to give it a magical quality at night too.

22.9cm x 30.5cm
For my last piece I painted this stretch of road McLaren Vale in the day. I have been wanting to practise my night scenes so I decided to paint the same stretch of road but at night. As this piece is not based off a photo like my others often are I tried to give it a fantastical feel.

22.9cm x 30.5cm
McLaren Vale is a beautiful wine region only 45 minutes from Adelaide CBD. It is framed by the round hills and the ocean. It’s such a beautiful spot which is why I chose to get married at a winery there.

22.9cm x 30.5cm
Lately I have been trying to develop my skills painting night scenes. This one was inspired by a beautiful beach walk on a balmy night at Brighton.

22.9cm x 30.5cm
Since I have moved back to Adelaide I live so much closer to the beach. I am loving my night time beach walks with my dog Forrest. This piece was inspired by a walk at Glenelg. Painting a night time seen has been a great learning experience as well.

This kookaburra miniature was inspired by one I saw at Horseshoe Bay. In Adelaide it is common to hear them laughing throughout the suburbs and the hills. They do this when they are trying to establish territory.

30.5cm x 40.5cm
Playford Lake is located in Belair National Park. It’s full of ducks, water birds and turtles. It’s one of my favourite dog walking locations all year round.

Before I moved the Queensland I visited many times as my grandparents lived there. This picture was inspired by a lovely family holiday I took in 2016 with my parents. This is such a beautiful part of Australia. And yes, I did look out for 🐊

To get into the spirit of the season I painted this picture of the Chandlers Hill Christmas Tree Farm. This is one of my absolute favourite places to visit in early December. It is so magical being able to choose the best shaped tree and decorate it. The smell is the best thing in the world.

40.5cm x 40.5cm
Noosa has quickly become one of my favourite Australian holiday destinations. I have been every year since living in Brisbane as it is in driving distance. This piece was inspired by an afternoon spent on the beach where I could not get over the pastel colour of the light.

30cm x 40cm
This piece was inspired by my honeymoon in Thailand. We spent a week travelling from Bangkok to Koh Samui to Phuket. This was our view for a week every morning on our walk after breakfast.

20cm x 26cm
Enoggera Dam was built in 1866 and is the oldest reservoir in Brisbane. It is a great place to visit if you like to bush walk like I do.

30cm x 40cm
South Australia really is spoilt with many beautiful beaches. Glenelg is probably the most well known. When I lived there I often did this coastal walk from Glenelg to Brighton. Such a great way to unwind after a long day at work.

60cm x 75cm
Karka Picnic Area with the Karka Pavilion in Belair National Park is one of my favourite places. The pavilion itself was built in 1911 and the area around is so stunning with its huge trees of different colours. There is no bad time to visit but the afternoon to evening is my favourite. I instantly feel at peace when I am there.

When I was asked to do this piece, I was so happy as it is such a joy to paint this lovely area, especially at sunset. This piece will be auctioned for charity to raise money for cancer research. Details to follow as the event details may have changed due to the SA lockdown.

I used to regularly travel along this bridge when walking from Glenalta to Joans Pantry for a yummy chai latte. The whole walk along the Minno Creek is so pretty and green.

Margate is a pretty strip of beach in the north of Brisbane. I particularly like walking the two kilometres along the boardwalk in the evening.

Brighton beach is a very popular South Australian beach. This painting was inspired by a photo I took while going on a peaceful morning walk with my dog. It is the perfect start to any day.

This is easily one of the most photogenic beaches in Adelaide. It could be the remnants of the old jetty, the caves or just the stunning beach. Either way, when I visited again in December, I knew I had to paint it.

30cm x 40cm
This painting was inspired by the beautiful Japanese gardens at USQ in Toowoomba. I visited them on a road trip in 2019 to Toowoomba. You could not find a more relaxing place to study.

This is a painting of Jolene the chicken which was inspired by my cousin’s brilliant photography. Jolene is one of many chickens that reside at Cluckingham Palace at my cousin’s place. All the chickens have the best names.

River road is a windy road which goes from Hahndorf to Mylor. I have driven down it so many times heading home after a beautiful day at Hahndorf. I usually spend my time spotting goats and horses along the way. It’s so idyllic.

This was a scene inspired by walks through Beerburrum State Forest to find pine cones to make Christmas decorations.

30.5cm X 30.5cm
This painting was inspired by the lovely views all around when driving in the Fleurieu Peninsula. The perfect Sunday involves a winery lunch and then spending the evening at the coast nearby.

Australian magpies are my favourite birds. They are songbirds who have a variety of calls and the ability to mimic. They can also remember human faces. They have a reputation for swooping but only 10% of them do this during breeding season.
This one is Tuffina who I befriended. We used to hang out together everyday on my front porch when she would come down from the trees for a snack.

One of my favourite things about summer in Brisbane is seeing these guys wake up from hibernation and appear along the river. Some people are scared of them but I love them.
Fun fact: Water Dragons live up to 20 years and males can reach a length of 1 metre and weigh about 1 kg.

This is a pet portrait of beautiful Willow which was a wedding gift for her human parents. Getting married is such a special time in a couples lives and I am so glad I can create something to celebrate this lovely little family as they begin the next chapter together.

King parrots are colourful birds found mainly in the rainforests on the east coast of Australia. I met this one when hiking at Queen Mary Falls National Park. He (the males have the red heads) kept posing while I took his photo.

Rainbow lorikeets are beautiful little birds that can be found naturally in Australia from Queensland to South Australia. When I lived next to Belair National Park these guys would come and eat seeds from our bird feeder in the afternoon. I loved watching about fifteen of them try and fit into the feeder at once.

Burleigh has become one of my favourite beaches to visit on the weekends while living in Brisbane. I especially love the swimming and the walks.

This picture was inspired by a summers day spent at Bribie Island swimming and walking up and down the beach. The original picture that inspired this was taken in January right before COVID and little did we know how much days like these would be missed in the months to come.

Crystal Creek is a lovely spot very near Paluma, the small rainforest town that my grandparents lived in. It is quiet, secluded and reminds me of family.

This is the beautiful Horseshoe Bay in Pt Elliot, South Australia (my hometown). The view was so good that I am going to paint both angles.

This is one of the first paintings I did when I restarted painting about eighteen months ago. It is of the little magpie family in my yard near Belair National Park. This picture is not perfect and there are definitely things I would do differently with the practice and experience I have now. That being said, I love seeing my progress.
